A big welcome to all of our new members who have signed up in the last few weeks. Quite a few people have asked for more guidance and are saying ‘I don’t know how to get started’ or ‘Do you have advice for beginners?’ So we’re doing a ‘Beginners Guide to the Fife Diet’.

In the meantime here’s a few do’s and don’ts. Feel free to add in your own ideas in the comments..

Do eat your veg box. Don’t buy a veg box AND keep going to the supermarket, then stop the veg box ‘cos  ‘it’s too expensive’.

Don’t drive around Fife buying individual pots of jam at Farm Shops (not that you shouldn’t by jam at farms shops … oh you know what I mean).

Do use your producers pack to find out who does home deliveries.

Do ask your veg box supplier to tailor the box to your needs.

Don’t throw away your bag of salad if its looking tired.  Instead, make this.

Do enjoy exploring local foods and cooking new things.

Don’t deny yourself things you love.

Do adapt to taking more time to cook. Do connect with other members and get ideas from the website and our events.

Don’t worry about it.

Do make this.

Don’t forget to bottle the glut – if it’s apples in October or tomatoes in August, you need to make that jam/chutney/tomato sauce.

Do try to grow your own. No space is too small. Herbs/salad in a window box is a good place to start.
